PlayStation Vita (PSVita) có màn hình cảm ứng lớn 5" độ phân giải 960 x 544 điểm ảnh, sử dụng công nghệ OLED cho chất lượng hiển thị tốt. Hai cần analog cũng như 4 phím điều hướng và các nút truyền thống vẫn xuất hiện trên thế hệ máy chơi game thứ 2 này. Với CPU 4 nhân trên nền ARM Cortex A9 và GPU SGX543MP4+, Sony cho biết Vita có sức mạnh tương đương với PS3.

Giống như chiếc máy 3DS của Nintendo, PS Vita cũng được trang bị cả camera trước và sau. Phần lưng của PS Vita có thêm một panel hỗ trợ cảm ứng. Phần panel này được đặt cùng vị trí và có kích cỡ đúng bằng với màn hình chính. Nó sẽ giúp các thao tác trong game dễ dàng và tiện lợi hơn. Điểm cải tiến tiếp theo và được các game thủ mong chờ từ lâu đó là PS Vita giờ đây sẽ không sử dụng đĩa UMD nữa, thay vào đó là phương thức lưu trữ game mới, tiện lợi và đơn giản hơn.
